Identities stolen can happen to anyone of us.We need to protect ourselves from identity scams, by adopting an identity theft check. “LifeLock“ reports that in 2006 over 193,000 people fell victim to identity theft in the United States and every 3 seconds someones identity is stolen.
Ask periodically for a copy of your credit report. Your credit report should list all bank and financial accounts under your name, and will provide other indications of whether someone has wrongfully opened or used any accounts in your name.Keep a careful eye on your banking and financial accounts. Even though financial institutions are required to maintain copies of your checks, debit transactions, and similar transactions for five years, you should retain your monthly statements and checks for at least one year.
One of Europe’s most wanted men, ‘Radovan Karadzic’ ,a 63-year-old, who has been leading a double life as alternative therapist ‘Dragan Dabic’, The real ‘Dragan Dabic’, is a 66-year construction worker, and quite rightly complains of being besieged by the media. ’Dabic’,who bears no resemblance whatsoever to ‘Karadzic’ said “I’m being questioned by police, my life is in turmoil”. Officials were trying to figure out whether ‘Karadzic’s’ ID was a fake or an official copy of Dabic’s original ID.
‘Karadzic’ intends to represent himself when he faces charges for his part in the 1995 massacre of 8,000 Muslim men and boys at Srebrenica and the siege of Sarajevo.
‘Karadzic’, a trained psychiatrist, called himself an expert in “psycho energy” spent his time on the run writing a weekly column about meditation for an alternative health magazine. He even had a website offering treatment for diabetes, using something called “quantum energy”. and saw patients at a centre outside Belgrade, he even treated a young couple for fertility problems.
