Anxiety and Christmas; Can Christmas Actually Cause Anxiety?

Think for a moment about the words Anxiety and Christmas…What do these words mean to you?  Can Christmas actually cause Anxiety?  Christmas may be a busy time for most of us but do you really know what causes Anxiety?

Let me ask you if you think that Christmas holidays are supposed to be a time full of joy and cheer, parties and family gatherings. Just for a moment I want you to imagine what it would mean to be free from Christmas anxiety and holiday stresses. Anxiety is psychologically and emotionally draining it can also become a way of life. 

“what causes anxiety?” could be replaced by “what causes unnecessary anxiety?”. There are lots of people who “have anxiety” and they are infact just the same as everyone else but with part of their brain working overtime unnecessarily. (They do not necessarily suffer from a mental disorder). 

Having anxiety can be rather like leaving a car engine running for 24 hours when all we need it for is to nip to the local store. As you continue to read this article you will begin to realize how to manage your anxiety better. By knowing this information you will become better equipped and find your self coping differently. I want you to picture your self dealing with Christmas in a way that you would like to.

Here are a few tips to make your holidays less stressed and happier:

Reduce holiday stress by saying “no” more often.

Prioritize invitations to reduce holiday stress.

Take your vitamins, supplements and minerals.

Take time to snooze, read, and relax.

Laugh! Do not take everything too seriously. Let go and enjoy your self.

Keep old traditions alive, but be open to new ones.

Listen to music that relaxes and/or energizes you.

Go for a drive in the country; Go for a walk in the local park. Exercise is a good way to release feel good endorphins.  

Write your anxieties or frustrations in your journal this is a good way to reduce stress.
