The F Word

November 14, 2008

The “F” word. The “T” word. The “B” word. There are numerous swear words. Swearing in general, what are your opinions?

Given the right circumstances and expressed by an adult, some would say that swearing can be an effective way to get your point across. Swearing can be seen as hilarious when used at the right moment by comedians.

Some would say that swearing shows a lack of intelligence, swearers are verbally retarded and insipid. Ladies should not swear or even be subject to it, it is something only men do and only when there are no females present.

Others would say that someone swearing is emotional and that they feel really strongly about what they are expressing. Alternatively if someone swears all the time it can become pointless, boring and offers no impact whatsoever.

Sex and swearing can be seen as very similar; People desensitise to both sexually explicit material and swearing. After the initial exposure it loses it’s shock value and can become unexciting, the same can be said about swearing, becoming monotonous and dull.

The Truth about Infidelity

October 15, 2008

The Truth about Men relationships and infidelity: Whether it is a casual relationship or a full blown affair. Betrayal affects trust relationships. One of the main ingredients for a good healthy relationship is to be open and honest, sadly this marriage communication is not priority for lots of unhappy couples. The average couple spends only 12 minutes a day in conversation. Couples could try improving things, by spending quality time together, talking about anything except money, work or children.

Gary Neuman, who has been a psychotherapist and marital therapist in the United States for 20 years, was determined to discover why men cheat. In his book ‘The Truth About Cheating’, Neuman interviewed 200 men from 48 states, including 100 men who had cheated and 100 who had not, and concluded that genetics had little to do with most marital breakdowns.

In fact,  Neuman reveals that, far from men seeking younger, prettier women, more men blame being under valued and unappreciated by their wives with an “emotional disconnect” in the home than a need to find a newer partner.

New Beginnings at 40 years old

October 14, 2008

New Beginnings at 40 years old: Does life begin at 40 years old or is it a myth. A recent study revealed that it’s the time when most people usually achieve what they want, be that a career change, new and fulfilling relationships, hobbies, interests or travel.

But it seems that many people, actually associate growing old with being unhappy and miserable, and don’t see any benefit in preserving their health for old age.

Nancy Irwin was in her early 40s when she changed her career from stand-up comedy to psychotherapy. Having made such a dramatic turnaround, she thought to herself, “If I can do it, anybody can.” So she collected dozens of examples of people who also made major life changes after 40, including many who switch careers. She documented their lives in the book “You-Turn: Changing Direction in Midlife.”

Children Disorder Psychiatric Drug Treatment

October 13, 2008

This weekend saw The Annual conference of the International Center for the Study of Psychiatry and Psychology. The main emphasis was on  the “Effective Therapeutic Approaches to Emotional Suffering: Recovering the Soul of Psychotherapy.”

One of the main presenters was Lawyer, Jim Gottstein, who once brought a lawsuit to the Alaskan Governor ’Sara Palin’ and her state. Jim now under the umbrella of the organization ’PyschRight’ brought a lawsuit against the state of Alaska’s controversial ”psychiatric drugging of children.”

Impact Economic Effects on Suicide Statistics

October 10, 2008

Impact Economic Effects on Suicide Statistics. Suicide statistics rise with the effects of economic depression. What is recession?  Recession 2008:  According to Wikipedia: The definition of a recession is;  ”a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months, usually affecting; real income, employment, industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales.” A sustained recession may become a depression..

I recently found an article in the Marketwatch.com that saddened and outraged me, yet at the same time offered hope to those that I think deserve as much help as possible:

“Sadly, given the current economic conditions, more and more Americans are feeling that they must cut their mental health care to make ends meet. I am concerned about those most vulnerable - especially our returning troops and their families who will be affected by the current economic crisis - particularly those returning to rural communities across America where mental health care is already limited”.

Research shows that suicides and psychiatric hospitalizations tend to peak at the lowest point of a recession, when unemployment is at its height. A smaller peak also occurs just prior to the economy falling into recession, when there is widespread uncertainty. “If you were to look at suicide graphically, it wouldn’t be difficult to imagine that you would be seeing another economic indicator,” says M. Harvey Brenner, a professor of public health at the University of North Texas Health Science Center.

I wanted to spread the word regarding:  ”Give An Hour“  Give an Hour is a nonprofit organization, founded in September 2005 by Dr. Barbara V. Romberg, a psychologist in the Washington, D.C., area. The organization’s mission is to develop national networks of volunteer mental health workers, capable of responding to both acute and chronic conditions that arise within our society.

I hope you find this as evocative as I.  Let me know?  I am interested.

Legal Drug Addiction and Treatment Substance Abuse

October 9, 2008

Drug addiction and treatment substance abuse happens quite legally. Prescription medicines are very addictive drugs. I have put together some interesting videos for your perusal.

Oxycodone is a strong opioid analgesic (pain killer) drug with a high potential to cause physical and psychological dependence. Once the addictive problems of heroin and morphine became well known, it was decided not to make pain killers using morphine substitutes.

Psychosexual Dysfunction Treatment Therapy

October 8, 2008

Psychosexual Dysfunction Treatment:

Experts are claiming that stress can be the main cause in relation to the lack of sexual drive in men. Depression and the inability to talk about their problems are also a high factor to consider.

Relationship counsellors have reported a whopping 40 % increase in the number of men with low libido’s, stating that, despite being physically able to have sex, they don’t have any interest.

What we seem to have, is a lot of men who are saying: “I can have sex, but I don’t want to. It’s not rewarding”.

Such complaints were unheard of ten years ago. They tend to be men in their thirties, forties and fifties and married.

One of the explanations is that men are less able to talk about their problems than women, or express their emotions.  Men are most likely to suffer depression between the ages of 30 and 50. Another explanation could be that our work culture has gone from nine to five, to extremely long hours, which makes for a very stressful life.

It is a serious issue and it counts as a psychosexual dysfunction, rather than just a relationship problem, because these men haven’t simply gone off their partner but they have off sex altogether.

Fixing problems

For example, if a man has low testosterone, part of the treatment is to give him a supplement, and that may be more effective if a psychosexual therapist supports the process. The production of testosterone is not entirely physical, …

The Beauty within Psychotherapy, Religion, Art and Poo?

October 7, 2008

In a new york art gallery is displaying a feature made from entirely animal and human excrement

It is the latest exhibition by controversial artist Andres Serrano, who is well known for using bodily fluids in his photographs. He has photographed the stools of a priest, a psychotherapist and his own.

“It’s more an investigation of beauty and I like to find beauty where others don’t look for it”  Andres Serrano.

His large scale photographs of animal and human turds are highlighted by colourful backgrounds.

The artist travelled to a zoo in Ecuador to photograph the faeces of animals, including jaguars, sheep, chicken and dogs.

“I try to create and express something but it’s never a message. It’s more an investigation of beauty and I like to find beauty where others don’t look for it,” he said.

4 Good Reasons for Trauma Treatment Therapy.

October 6, 2008

Four Good Reasons why Trauma Treatment Therapy is Crucial when we experience Traumatic Events.

1. We need to express and process our strong emotions, if we are not allowed to do so, we learn to  repress these feelings and they can erupt years later, distorted and causing great confusion.

2. The ability to process these emotions can prevent difficulties in later life. Whereby we can struggle with daily functioning. Often feeling inundated and incapacitated.

3. Many people who have repressed their experiences and feelings, often find great difficulty in moving on, they become more likely to self harm, take drugs and or alcohol. They may turn to these substances in order to escape and numb their difficult, painful emotions.

4. Stomach problems (IBS), anxiety and panic attacks, exhaustion, and memory loss problems are physical manifestations of emotional stress.
