sp!ked review of books | Bully for childhood

But when did you hear anybody dare to declare that teasing, arguing and even fighting are normal and necessary parts of childhood, or that the official anti-bullying and anti-abuse crusades are dangerous barriers to social development? …

Three Degrees of Freedom: Bully for You

So much so, that the very authorities who are given the task of checking out genuine cases of abuse and turn their backs and walk away, are in a furore of righteous vigour about the rights of children to be ‘safe. …

With Bullying, Suicide Risk for Victims and Tormentors – Well Blog …

I do know one thing, I believe that bullying does amplify suicidal tendencies as the victim can no longer cope and just wants out, why as bully would feel more suicidal than the victim of their abuse, I don’t quite understand. …

And finally…

Bullied to death: They committed suicide because of bullying

The Truth about ECT Electroconvulsive Therapy; Electroconvulsive Therapy was first introduced in the 1930s and was used as a treatment for depression extensively throughout 1940s and 1950s;
Even today an estimated 1 million people worldwide receive ECT every year, usually in a course of 6-12 treatments, 2 or 3 times a week.

Electroconvulsive therapy can differ on application in 3 ways;

Electrode placement,

Length of time that the stimulus is given,

Property of the stimulus

The official figures on the use of controversial electric shock treatment show that hundreds of people were treated against their will.

A quarter of ECT patients were formally detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.

The figures show 2,800 patients received electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) over a three month period from January to March 1999.

There were 900 male patients receiving treatment, compared with 1,900 female patients.

Of the 700 ECT patients formally detained whilst receiving ECT treatment, 59% did not consent to treatment.

The last Department of Health figures were issued in 1991.

Mental health campaigners say that:
“No-one really knows how it works and what its long-term effects are”.

A spokeswoman said:
“It is so risky and severe. The side effects can be very severe, including short- or long-term memory loss, coma and possibly death.”

Mental Health Campaigners hope these statistics help towards banning the use of ECT without consent and a total ban on its use for people under 16.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists have expressed concern about the way the treatment is administered. In a recent report, it stated that ECT could be administered by poorly trained junior doctors with out-of-date equipment and often left unsupervised.

I personally have seen both sides of the outcome – Patients whose lives have been transformed and their depression lifted and quality of life resumed and of course those that are quite literally worse as a result, suffering with memory loss, nervous twitches and adhedonistic attitudes.

So Again. Let me ask if any of you have had any experience with Electroconvulsive Therapy either as a therapist or as a patient.

Please share them with us all…We are interested and we are listening.

Who Needs Self Respect? Accept your self Exactly As you are.

This book is a compilation of inspirational exchanges from powerful female role models such as Oprah Winfrey, Eva Mendes and Kelly Clarkson, giving advice to young girls and women about self-esteem.
The author Shaun Robinson actually called each of these women up and spoke to them individually.
She said…“I’m not about to interview you about your lives I just want to ask your advice on uplifting girls self esteem. “

Shaun also went onto add… “I was really honored by the women who wanted to offer their name and input to this project, because they weren’t getting any publicity for it”.

Oprah Winfrey: “True self-esteem is realizing that you are valuable because you were born.”

Eva Mendes: “I have found that by Surrounding myself with people who love and support me has been the key to my success. “

Kelly Clarkson: “Perfection is boring” and “The flaws and vulnerability are what make people attractive.”

She’s won an Emmy, written columns for popular magazines and of course, is the weekend co-host and a correspondent for Access Hollywood, but when Shaun Robinson sat down to write her first book, she decided to not pen her manuscript …

I gotta to thank Shaun for inviting me to her personal myspace group where she talks about self-esteem and pride issues for teens. I think Shaun thinks I am a teen. Isn’t that cute. A few weeks ago, I got an invite from Random House for …

Unleash the Power of Self Confidence: Suffering with low esteem and lack of self confidence can seriously affect our self worth and value.

7 Tips To Improving self confidence:

Some believe that everything happens for a reason; Action and consequence;

Past hurts and mistakes can become our teachers and we can learn from them, they can become your tools in both self improvement and success.

“Have you seen the film “Patch Adams” – it’s one of my favourite movies.
Hunter “patch” Adams is a medical student who failed to make it through the board exams. After months of suffering in melancholy, depression and suicidal attempts, he decided to seek for medical attention and voluntarily admitted himself in a psychiatric ward. His stay in the hospital led him to meeting different kinds of people;
He met a catatonic, a mentally retard, a schizophrenic and so on. Patch found ways of treating his own ailment and finally realized he had to get back on track.
He woke up one morning realizing that after all the failure and pain he had gone through, he still wanted to become a doctor. He carried with him a positive attitude that brought him self improvement and success. He didn’t only improve himself, but also the life of the people around him and the quality of life.
Did he succeed? Needless to say, he became the best damn doctor his country has ever known”

I know what your thinking…Where do I start?

Here are 7 tips:

1. Stop thinking and feeling as if you’re a failure. How can others accept you if YOU cannot accept YOURSELF? Self acceptance is not just about how we look, it’s about the inside. Concentrate on inner beauty.

2. When people feel so down and low about themselves, help them to feel positive, this will in it self help you too.

3. The world is a large room where lessons can be learned through our mistakes. Try not to feel stupid or a failure. Examine your internal dialogue. Make room for self improvement. Take each day as it comes.

4. Take each day one at a time. Patience is a virtue and Self improvement will not happen over night… Success comes from self confidence, self appreciation and self esteem.

5. Set meaningful and achievable goals. Small but relevant changes that will help you to improve a better YOU.

6. Little things can mean a lot. Allowing ourselves 5 minutes of gratitude daily, can have a tremendous affect on our moods. Being appreciative about beautiful things like nature, will also help us to radiate our inner beauty.

7. When you are willing to accept change and go through the process of self improvement, it does not mean that everyone else will. The world is a place full of people with different values and attitudes.

We should always remember that there’s no such thing as ‘over night success’.

“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”

I will endeavor to explain the problems on the study of effective exercise as opposed to non-effective exercise.

Feeling the impact effects of regular exercise releases feel good hormones;

Some experience high impact full body exercises and some low impact chair exercises

We all have read articles lately about the benefits that exercise can have on our mental/ emotional health.

How people suffering anxiety, low self esteem or mild depression can reap the benefits of simple and regular exercise.

As you continue to read this article you will notice how you absorb this information, challenging what we may or may not believe.

Although this optimistic appraisal has attracted a great deal of attention, the scientific community has been much more cautious in offering such a blanket endorsement. Consider the tentative conclusions from the Surgeon General’s Report on Physical Activity and Health (PCPFS Research Digest, 1996) that… “Physical activity appears to relieve symptoms of depression and anxiety and improve mood” and that “regular physical activity may reduce the risk of developing depression, although further research is needed on this topic.”

Did you notice the careful usage of words which I have under-lined. You may not know it yet but in a moment you will gain the knowledge about careful usage of words like appears and may.

There are numerous clinical trial studies offering variable findings, some of which are pro exercise and some against. There is no doubt that the mental health area needs more statistically evidence based research. And that is why you may find the open ended, non-committal words used in scientific studies that may illustrate the caution that people in the scientific community appear to have when it comes to endorsing research.

The fact that you are still reading this article means that you are interested.

Let me ask you to imagine for a moment what it would be like to conduct your own research.

Just think about it…

If you start to feel better then you are the one that benefits. If you start to feel worse then stop. You may wish to offer your research to the mental health associations, you may not…

Let me ask you to share your thoughts on this matter and what this information meant to you.

Could cosmetic surgery cost you, your marriage? Plastic surgery breast implants, a cosmetic procedure, that is a costly act and one that could cost more than you bargained for. Apart from the financial expenditure, reports say that the cost of cosmetic surgery especially, plastic surgery breast implants, could lead to a marital breakdown.

Specialist law firms claim that the most commonly cited signs of infidelity (within women) was a sudden devotion and concern with how the woman looks: Wrinkles, breast size or shape, waist-line etc…

Naturally for a woman, her breasts will eventually head south, she may consider having plastic surgery breast implants. Does it seriously mean she is having an affair?

So where does this line of reasoning leave Peter Andre, who allegedly encouraged his wife Katie Price (aka Jordan) to have plastic surgery breast implants to reduce the size of her boobs?

Husbands apparently feel that a wife who has improved her looks with surgery can not possibly still find him attractive. Jealousy and suspicions can creep in: surely there must be someone else.

Cosmetic surgery is no longer the well kept secret of a few. Most recent figures show that breast enlargement remains the most common procedure for women.

Meanwhile, husbands should relax, it’s mostly a win-win situation. Women are having surgery mostly for their own sakes, which includes feeling sexier with their chosen partner.

Unless of course there are other issues that lie under the surface, one’s that are avoided at all cost. That is, until it is too late.
