Funny New Year Resolutions

My friend Linda announced that she intended to lose some weight she had put on recently so decided to commence on a diet.”Great!” I exclaimed. “I need to lose some weight too. We can be dieting buddies and help each other out. When I feel the urge to drive out and get a burger and fries, I’ll call you first.” “Great!” she replied. “I’ll ride with you.”

New Year resolutions should be easy to follow. A simple rule is: Set only achievable goals. Do not expect too much from yourself. Try to find out what you can do and stick to it. Going out of the way to prove your self to others is of no use.

Do you recognize any of these funny resolution statements?

Prefix all with “I intend to….”

Spend more time with the family.

Keep fit

Quit smoking, and or reduce my alcohol/ drug intake

Enjoy life more. Work less. Take it easy.

Get out of debt

Learn something new

Help others

Get organized

Give up chocolate totally. 100%. Completely. Honestly….

What exactly is a “Resolution”?

“A New Year’s Resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or the reforming of a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. The name comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year’s Day and remain until fulfilled or abandoned.

Recent research shows that while 52% of participants in a Resolution study were confident of success with their goals, only 12% actually achieved their goals. Men achieved their goal 22% more often when they engaged in goal setting, a system where small measurable goals are used (lose a pound a week, instead of saying “lose weight”), while women succeeded 10% more when they made their goals public and got support from their friends”.

Where do resolutions originate from?

The tradition of the New Year’s Resolutions goes all the way back to 153 B.C. Janus, a mythical king of early Rome was placed at the head of the calendar. With two faces, Janus could look back on past events and forward to the future. Janus became the ancient symbol for resolutions and many Romans looked for forgiveness from their enemies and also exchanged gifts before the beginning of each year.

Do rememeber that ‘All work and no play can make life really dull and boring’.

And may all your troubles last as long as your New Year’s resolutions! LOL!

Let me know your resolutions.
