One of the main presenters was Lawyer, Jim Gottstein, who once brought a lawsuit to the Alaskan Governor ’Sara Palin’ and her state. Jim now under the umbrella of the organization ’PyschRight’ brought a lawsuit against the state of Alaska’s controversial ”psychiatric drugging of children.”

Feeling SAD On The First Day of Fall?
September 22, 2008
The first day of fall or the Autumnal Equinox is today Monday 22nd September 2008. Many suffer with seasonal affective disorder, as we lose seasonal light, our moods can change and we may need to have some seasonal affective disorder therapy (SAD). It may mean purchasing a light therapy lamp.
Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) symptoms:
“Some people experience a serious mood change when the seasons change. They may sleep too much, have little energy, and crave sweets and starchy foods. They may also feel depressed. Though symptoms can be severe, they usually clear up.“

Working On Issues or with Issues?
September 19, 2008
Therapy definition within the media, represents therapists, family marriage counseling, psychotherapy and counseling and many more, as people, who work on issues but, who also have their own issues. Take a look at the list below;
Therapists depiction within the media:
Sopranos: Dr Melfi. Depressed alcoholic
In Treatment: Gabriel Byrne. More dysfunctional than his patients
Ally McBeal: Tracey Ullman. Controlling psychopath
Prince of Tides: Barbara Streisand. Sexual predator
Frasier: Frasier Crane. Fumbling neurotic obsessive
Silence of the Lambs: Hannibal Lecter. Cannibalistic
OK… So why represent therapists as either an old fashioned Freudien type, or one who suffers with depression, alcoholism, drug addiction or even sleeping with patients. Some are even seen, as just a plain bundle of psychological fumbling and neurosis.
Could it be, that one of human natures characteristics, is to mock, that which we don’t understand?
Alternatively, could it be because the western world is made up of cynical and suspicious people who are intimidated by the imaginary idea, that therapists, are people who know more about us than we do ourselves?
Or is it just a fear, of really letting a stranger inside our heads?
Mmm!! Food for thought…
Let me know what you think of therapists?
Psychotherapy helps Best Ever Rock Bands
September 12, 2008
If there existed a best ever rock band list, that consisted of the 100 greatest rock bands, then I would expect to see Metallica and Guns’n'Roses on that list. Who would you expect to see on the 100 greatest rock band list?
Did you know that Metallica, the world’s biggest heavy rock band, were widely ridiculed for making their last album, 2003’s comparatively sensitive St Anger, under the guidance of a psychotherapist.
In terms of regaining their primacy, Death Magnetic is every inch the record they needed to make: a more wisely chosen mentor, producer Rick Rubin, has them exploding anew with the battle-rabid, flat-out thrash-metal of their late-Eighties heyday.

Others who have been helped by Psychotherapy are Axl Rose. Lead singer from Guns’n'Roses. Where ever and when ever he felt the need, he flew his own personal psychotherapist to him and usually went through extensive emotional work for 4-5 days at a time.

Body and Self Image
September 8, 2008
Body and Self image are extremley important to our culture today. Weight loss anorexia, anorexic women, anorexic girls, anorexic men. Anorexic research shows that anorexia affects everybody:
The film is called Beauty Mark and is being shown today at the University of Colorado as part of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Israel is seeking a distributor to take the movie national. …
“Beauty Mark” is for anyone who has ever felt they didn’t conform to our culture’s impossible, unhealthy and abnormal beauty standards. Through the eyes of a psychotherapist and former triathlete Diane Israel. This film examines our culture’s toxic emphasis on weight. She tells her own story while interviewing others about their experiences relating to self image.
A deeply personal and funny film that probes some tough questions:
How do our families influence our relationships with our own bodies?
How do popular culture “standards” get inside of our hearts and heads?
In what ways can sports actually make us sicker instead of healthier?
Former champion athletes, including David Scott, Ellen Hart Pena and Brenda Maller share their stories while notable luminaries such as playwright Eve Ensler, author Paul Campos and cultural critic Naomi Wolf provide their insights.
On Sunday, we watched Beauty.Mark, a must-see film by former elite triathlete Diane Israel. About ten years ago, I went to a cool body/mind/sport camp called Women’s Quest, where Diane was a coach. I remember her bringing up her body …
An elite runner and triathlete until age 28, Israel won the Pikes Peak Marathon and several other major races after settling in Colorado in the early 1980s. She retired from competition after collapsing from anorexia (sometimes called “athletic bulimia,” a disorder many athletes suffer from, but which few experts knew anything about at that time). Israel went back to school to become a psychotherapist and is now a professor of human development at Naropa University, a counselor and the co-owner of a women’s fitness center. She continues to run, but strives to live her life at a less frantic pace.

Challenging the way society views beauty is to rewrite the deeply engraved ideologies of chiseled abs, curvy hips and puffy lips. With a new tell-all documentary called “Beauty Mark,” and a bag full of rocks, Diane Israel said she is up …

What Does My Dream Mean?
August 25, 2008
”DO NOT SHOOT THE MESSENGER”
What does my dream mean? What do your dreams mean? What is a dream? We still know relatively little about dreams and there meanings. Every body dreams, even dogs.
You are the dreamer. The dream belongs to you. By your self or with the help of professionals you can interpret your dreams but no-one can tell you, what your dream meant. There are lots of different dream interpretation dictionaries on the market. We can now access online dream interpretation.
Everyone dreams but not everyone remembers them. Some remember every dream they have, some do not. This just goes to show we are all different. We can learn to remember, simply by keeping a note-pad by the side of the bed, set your alarm to wake you up at least every 40-45 minutes and write down what-ever is in your mind and most importantly, how you felt on waking. Do not try to make sense of it.
Have a go at this short exercise designed to help you explore the metaphors you live by:. Recall a story, fairy tale or even a dream from your early childhood that was meaningful for you at the time. Write a short summary (6-8 …

Freud and his colleagues got pretty involved in the meanings behind dreams. As far as I understand it, they listened to a lot of their patients talking about their dreams and built theories about dream interpretation based on those stories.
Dreams can be a wonderful and magical experience but not for everyone. Some can be night time terrors.
Being a dream therapist I have a knowledge of dream interpretation and just how powerful their meanings can be. I will be blogging more on this fascinating subject.
